About YouTube Tag Generator

YouTube tags are a minor ranking signal, but they still help the platform understand what a video is about and can catch alternate names or spellings that the title does not contain. Filling the tag field by hand is repetitive, and copying the same block onto every video is a quick way to make the tags meaningless. This generator derives suggestions from the words already in the title and description.

It tokenizes the title first, keeps the meaningful words and adjacent two-word phrases, filters out filler words, removes duplicates, then repeats the process for the description and stops at your chosen tag count or the 500-character field limit. The output is comma-separated and easy to copy. The suggestions are a starting point, not search-volume data.

What this tool does

The details that matter when you use YouTube Tag Generator for real work.
  • Suggestions from your own copy

Tags are built from the video title and optional description, so they describe this video rather than a generic list.

  • Keywords and two-word phrases

Single words and adjacent phrase pairs are extracted in order, filtered for filling words and deduplicated.

  • 500-character budget

The live counter tracks the comma-separated length and trims suggestions that would push the tag field over the limit.

  • Adjustable tag count

Choose 10 to 30 suggestions depending on how many you want to review and edit before pasting.

  • Copy in one click

Copy the whole comma-separated block, or clear both inputs and start again with another video.

  • Runs locally

The title and description are tokenized in your browser; nothing is uploaded, stored or logged.

How to use YouTube Tag Generator

No account, no installation — the whole job happens in this browser tab.
  1. 01

    Paste the video title

The title is the strongest signal, so suggestions start there and follow the word order.

  2. 02

Add the description if you have one

A short description adds topic words and phrases that the title misses.

  3. 03

    Choose how many tags

Pick 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 suggestions; fewer tags are quicker to review and edit.

  4. 04

    Review the suggestions

Read the list and remove or rewrite tags that do not accurately describe the video.

  5. 05

    Copy the tags

Press Copy tags and paste the comma-separated list into the tag field in YouTube Studio.

Limitations worth knowing

  • Suggestions are derived only from the words you provide; the tool has no access to YouTube search volume or competitors' tags.
  • Stop-word filtering is English-focused, so filler words in other languages may survive into the list.
  • The output is capped at the 500-character tag field, and individual tags longer than 40 characters are skipped to keep the list readable.

Privacy and file handling

Titles and descriptions are tokenized in your browser with plain JavaScript. The text is never uploaded, stored or logged, and no request is made to a server while suggestions are generated.

YouTube Tag Generator FAQ

Short, direct answers to the questions people ask before using this tool.
Do YouTube tags still matter for ranking?
Tags are a minor factor compared with the title, thumbnail, viewer retention and watch time. They mainly clarify topic, alternate spellings and common misspellings, so treat the list as a small supporting signal rather than a growth strategy.
How does the generator choose tags?
It splits the title and description into words, removes common filler words and very short tokens, keeps the meaningful single words and adjacent two-word phrases, removes duplicates and stops at your chosen count or the 500-character limit.
Do I need to use every suggested tag?
No. The list is deterministic but generic: it cannot know your niche wording or search volume. Delete tags that are inaccurate, combine related ones, and add specific terms you know your audience searches for.
What is YouTube's tag character limit?
The tag field accepts about 500 characters in total, including the commas between tags. The counter in this tool uses the same comma-plus-space format, and suggestions that would exceed the budget are left out automatically.
Are YouTube tags case-sensitive?
No. Tags are matched case-insensitively, so Guitar Lesson and guitar lesson are treated as the same tag. The generator outputs lowercase tags for consistency and to avoid duplicate spellings.
Should tags repeat words from the title?
Yes, that is normal: tags support the topic the title already states. What matters is that every tag describes the video honestly, because misleading tags can hurt click-through and retention even when they surface the video.
Can I generate tags for a Shorts video?
Yes. Paste the Shorts title and description and the same words are extracted. Shorts rely even more on the video itself and its first frame, so keep the tag list short and focused on the topic.
Is my title or description uploaded by the tag generator?
No. Tokenization, filtering and joining run entirely in your browser, and the text never leaves your device. Nothing is stored, so closing the page clears the title, description and generated list.
