About Rotate PDF

A sideways page is usually a scan or a phone photo dropped into a document, and it is annoying every time the file is opened. Fixing it in a PDF editor can mean an expensive subscription, and many online tools re-render the page, which softens text and turns selectable text into a picture.

This tool rotates pages by changing the PDF's built-in page rotation attribute with pdf-lib. That means the page content is never redrawn: text stays selectable, images keep their original data and the file size barely changes. Rotate everything in one click or name the pages that need help, preview the result, then download the new document. Everything runs in your browser.

What this tool does

The details that matter when you use Rotate PDF for real work.
  • 90, 180 or 270 degrees

Pick the direction you need from a single dropdown — clockwise quarter turns, upside down, or one turn counter-clockwise.

  • All pages or a range

Rotate the whole document at once or only the pages you name, such as 1, 4-6, using the page range field.

  • No re-rendering

The rotation flag is edited directly, so text stays selectable and image data is never re-compressed.

  • Stacking rotation

The tool adds to any rotation a page already has, so a page that is already 90 degrees becomes 180 rather than being reset.

  • Result preview

The first rotated page is rendered as a thumbnail so you can confirm the direction before saving.

  • Private and instant

The file is read and fixed in your browser; there is no upload, no queue and no account.

How to use Rotate PDF

No account, no installation — the whole job happens in this browser tab.
  1. 01

    Add the PDF

Drop the file into the workspace. Its page count is read locally so you know which page numbers are valid.

  2. 02

    Choose a rotation

Select 90 degrees clockwise for a sideways page, 180 for an upside-down page, or 270 to turn the other way.

  3. 03

    Pick the pages

Leave the page field empty to rotate every page, or enter the pages that need fixing, such as 2, 5-7.

  4. 04

    Rotate the PDF

Click Rotate PDF. The tool rewrites the page rotation attributes and builds a new document.

  5. 05

    Download the result

Check the preview of the first rotated page, then download the fixed PDF.

Limitations worth knowing

  • Only 90, 180 and 270-degree rotations are supported; a slightly crooked scan cannot be straightened.
  • Rotation is a page attribute, and a small number of legacy viewers may ignore it.
  • Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked before they can be rotated.
  • Up to 200 pages and 100 MB per run.

Privacy and file handling

The PDF is opened, rotated and saved inside your browser with pdf-lib. It is never uploaded, and the document is written on your device. The original file is not modified, and nothing is stored after you close the page.

Rotate PDF FAQ

Short, direct answers to the questions people ask before using this tool.
Does rotating a PDF affect its quality?
No. Rotation is stored as a page attribute rather than baked into the page content, so text stays selectable, images keep their original data and the file size stays roughly the same.
Can I rotate only certain pages of a document?
Yes. Type the page numbers in the Pages to rotate field, for example 2, 5-7, to rotate only those pages. Leave the field empty to rotate the whole document.
Can I rotate a page by 45 degrees or straighten a scan?
No. Only right-angle rotations are available, because the PDF rotation attribute stores quarter turns. A scan that is slightly crooked needs an image editor or a deskewing tool instead.
Why does my rotated PDF still look sideways in another app?
A few older or unusual viewers ignore the page rotation flag. Modern browsers, Adobe Acrobat, Preview and most phone viewers respect it. If an app ignores it, open the file in a browser or convert the pages to images and rotate those.
Is the text still selectable after rotating?
Yes. The content stream is untouched, so text remains selectable and searchable. The viewer simply displays the page turned by the angle you chose.
What happens if a page is already rotated?
The new angle is added to the existing one. A page already shown at 90 degrees becomes 180 after a 90-degree rotation, which is usually what you want when fixing a page twice.
Can I rotate a password-protected PDF?
Not directly — encrypted documents cannot be edited until they are unlocked. Remove the password first with the Unlock PDF tool, then rotate the copy.
