About Remove Line Breaks

Text copied out of PDFs, emails, chat messages and web pages often arrives with a line break at the end of every visual line. The result looks broken as soon as it is pasted into a document, a form field or a spreadsheet cell, and fixing it by hand is slow on anything longer than a paragraph. This tool rejoins those lines in one step and shows the character, word and line counts before and after, so the change is visible rather than assumed.

Three line-break modes cover the cases that actually come up: replace every break with a single space, delete only the blank lines while keeping one line per row, or merge wrapped lines into paragraphs. Optional switches trim spaces at the edges of lines, collapse repeated spaces and strip bullet markers such as - and *, so a pasted list can become readable sentences or stay a list.

What this tool does

The details that matter when you use Remove Line Breaks for real work.
  • Three line-break modes

Remove every break with a single space, delete blank lines only, or merge wrapped lines into paragraphs while keeping the gap between them.

  • Trim and collapse whitespace

Trim each line and collapse runs of spaces, so pasted text loses the indentation and double spaces that came with its layout.

  • Bullet markers optional

Keep or remove leading bullet markers such as -, *, •, · and + so a pasted list becomes readable sentences or stays a list.

  • Live before and after counts

Characters, words and lines are shown for the input and the result side by side and update as you type or change an option.

  • Paste, sample, copy and download

Load a sample with blank lines and bullets, copy the result, or save it as a .txt file, and clear everything for the next job.

  • Browser-only, no upload

Everything runs in the page with JavaScript. The text never leaves the tab, and closing it discards the input and the output.

How to use Remove Line Breaks

No account, no installation — the whole job happens in this browser tab.
  1. 01

    Paste or load your text

Paste into the input box or drop a .txt file to load it. The text is read in this browser tab and never uploaded.

  2. 02

Choose how line breaks are handled

Pick remove all line breaks, delete blank lines only or merge paragraphs, depending on the shape the destination needs.

  3. 03

    Turn on the cleanup options

Trim each line, collapse repeated spaces and remove bullet markers. The result updates as soon as an option changes.

  4. 04

Compare the before and after counts

Check characters, words and lines on both sides to confirm the text changed the way you expected before copying it.

  5. 05

    Copy or download the result

Copy the cleaned text to the clipboard, or download it as a .txt file you can find later on your device.

Limitations worth knowing

  • Works on plain text only: bold, links, tables and other formatting are lost because the tool processes characters, not layout.
  • Bullet removal only strips a leading marker. Nested indentation and numbering such as 1. are left alone, so check numbered lists after converting.
  • Very large pastes (several megabytes) depend on the memory of the device and may be slower in older mobile browsers; the optional .txt upload accepts files up to 10 MB.
  • A paragraph is any run of non-empty lines, so prose that already has hard breaks inside sentences needs the merge option rather than the all-breaks option.

Privacy and file handling

Your text never leaves this browser tab. Conversion, character counts, copying and the .txt download are all handled with JavaScript on your device, so nothing is uploaded, stored or logged. Closing or refreshing the page discards the input and the result.

Remove Line Breaks FAQ

Short, direct answers to the questions people ask before using this tool.
What does removing line breaks actually do?
It replaces the line breaks in your text with spaces and joins the lines back together, so text that was wrapped for display becomes continuous text with no hard breaks. Use the blank-lines mode instead when you want to keep one line per row.
Why does my pasted text have a line break after every line?
PDFs, emails and web pages often store layout as short lines, so copying selects each visual line separately. Pasting preserves those breaks, which is why the text looks broken in a document or form field until they are removed.
What is the difference between removing all breaks and removing blank lines?
Removing all breaks joins every line into a single paragraph. Removing blank lines keeps the remaining lines as separate rows but deletes the empty ones, which is useful for cleaning lists, tables and subtitle files.
What does the merge paragraphs option do?
It collects consecutive non-empty lines into one paragraph, joins them with a space and keeps a single blank line between paragraphs. That restores wrapped prose without flattening separate sections together.
Can I remove bullet points and list markers?
Yes. Enable Remove bullet markers to strip a leading -, *, •, ·, +, – or — from each line. The option is off by default, so lists stay exactly as pasted unless you ask for them to be cleaned.
Does the tool remove indentation and double spaces?
Both are optional switches and both are on by default. Trim each line removes spaces and tabs at the start and end of every line, and Collapse repeated spaces turns runs of spaces into a single space.
Is my text uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in the page with JavaScript, so the text never reaches a server, is not logged and is not saved between visits. Closing or refreshing the page discards the input and the result.
Can I download the cleaned text as a file?
Yes. Download .txt saves the result as a plain UTF-8 text file, while Copy puts the same text on the clipboard for a document, an email or a form field. The upload and the result never leave your device.
