About HEIC to PNG
HEIC keeps iPhone photos small, but the format is awkward outside Apple's ecosystem. PNG is the opposite trade-off: every pixel is stored without loss, transparency survives, and virtually every editor can open it. When a photo has to go into a design tool, an upload form or a document that only accepts PNG, converting is the fastest way to unblock it.
This converter loads a HEIC decoder written in WebAssembly and runs it in your browser, so the photos never leave your device. Each frame is written as a lossless PNG at the phone's original resolution, one file at a time. The first conversion is slower because the decoder has to initialise; after that a small batch moves quickly.
What this tool does
Lossless PNG output
Every pixel decoded from the HEIC is stored exactly, so editing the PNG later never adds another round of compression.
Full camera resolution
The PNG keeps the photo's original pixel dimensions; nothing is resized or cropped on the way out.
Batch conversion
Queue up to 20 HEIC files and convert them one at a time, with a separate download for each result.
Transparency kept
If the HEIF image carries an alpha channel, PNG preserves it instead of painting a flat background.
Browser-only decoding
The decoder is part of the page and runs locally, so no photo is ever uploaded to a server.
Clear failure messages
Unsupported HEIC variants fail with a readable explanation instead of producing a broken file.
How to use HEIC to PNG
- 01
Select your HEIC files
Choose them from the photo library or a folder, up to 20 at a time.
- 02
Click Convert to PNG
The first file loads the decoder; each photo is then decoded and written as PNG.
- 03
Wait for the batch
Progress is shown per file, and files that cannot be decoded are listed with a reason.
- 04
Download the PNGs
Each result keeps the original name with a .png extension, ready for any editor.
Supported formats and limits
- Input
- HEIC
- Output
- PNG
- Processing
- Client-side, in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
- Maximum size
- Up to 50 MB per image
- Requirements
- Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on desktop or mobile · At least 2 GB of free memory for large batches
Limitations worth knowing
- PNG files are several times larger than the HEIC photos they came from.
- Some HEIC variants, including 10-bit HDR, ProRAW and multi-image HEIF, may not decode in a browser.
- Live Photos convert the still frame only; the motion clip is discarded.
- EXIF metadata such as GPS location and capture date is removed by the conversion.
Privacy and file handling
Your HEIC photos are decoded and re-encoded inside your browser tab with a WebAssembly decoder. The images are never uploaded, never stored on a server and never leave your device. The decoder library is part of the page itself.
