About Age Calculator

Forms, visas, school admissions and pension paperwork all ask for an age, and answering "how old are you" with a number of years is often not precise enough. This calculator works from the date of birth to today, or to any date you choose, and breaks the gap into calendar years, months and days — the way official forms expect it.

It also answers the questions people ask around a birthday: the total number of days lived, the equivalent weeks and hours, and exactly how many days remain until the next birthday, including the age that birthday will mark. Dates are read on your device, impossible dates are rejected, and nothing is uploaded.

What this tool does

The details that matter when you use Age Calculator for real work.
  • Exact calendar age

Years, months and days are counted on the calendar rather than by dividing total days by 365 or 30, so the result matches the convention used on official forms.

  • Any reference date

Calculate age today or choose another date, which is useful for backdating a form, checking a milestone or seeing the age someone will reach on a future date.

  • Totals in every unit

See the full number of days, weeks, months, hours and minutes lived, with weeks split into whole weeks plus the remaining days.

  • Next birthday countdown

The tool finds the next birthday and shows how many days away it is, the weekday it falls on, and the age that will be reached.

  • Leap-day aware

29 February birthdays are handled explicitly: in non-leap years the birthday is treated as 28 February, and that convention is stated under the result.

  • Validated dates

Impossible dates such as 31 February, a birth date in the future and a reference date earlier than the birth date are rejected with a clear message.

Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari · A valid date of birth within the last 150 years

Limitations worth knowing

  • Age is counted in calendar units, so results can differ by a day from calculators that divide total days by 30 or 365.
  • 29 February birthdays are treated as 28 February in non-leap years; some countries and families use 1 March instead.
  • Hours and minutes are derived from whole calendar days and do not use the exact time of birth.

Privacy and file handling

Dates are read and compared in your browser, and the age is computed locally with JavaScript. No date of birth is uploaded, stored or logged, and no request leaves your device while you use the calculator.

Age Calculator FAQ

Short, direct answers to the questions people ask before using this tool.
How is age calculated in years, months and days?
The tool counts complete calendar years, then complete calendar months, then the remaining days between the birth date and the reference date. Because a month can be 28 to 31 days, adding the parts by hand can differ by a day or two from calculators that use a fixed month length.
How do you handle someone born on 29 February?
In a non-leap year the birthday is treated as 28 February, so a leap-day baby turns a year older on 28 February in those years. The age breakdown and the next birthday countdown both follow that convention, which is stated under the result.
Why is the total number of days different from years times 365?
Leap years add a day roughly every four years, so multiplying whole years by 365 undercounts a long life. The total shown counts every calendar day between the two dates, including leap days, which makes it the accurate figure.
Can I calculate age on a future date?
Yes. Change the reference date to any date after the birth date and the result shows the age that will be reached on that day. This is useful for checking when someone turns a particular age or when a milestone falls.
Why does the calculator say the age date is before the birth date?
A birth date after the reference date would produce a negative age, which is not meaningful here. Swap the dates, or set the reference date back to today, and the age will calculate normally.
Does the tool work out hours and minutes exactly?
Totals use full 24-hour calendar days from the birth date, so daylight-saving changes do not add or remove a number. They are an approximation of time lived, not a record of the exact hour of birth.
Is a date of birth sent to a server?
No. Dates are read by JavaScript in your browser and are never uploaded, stored or logged. The calculator works entirely locally, so it is safe for a date of birth from a passport or ID.
Can I use the age calculator for official documents?
Yes, it gives the year-month-day age that most forms ask for. Keep in mind that institutions may apply their own rounding rules, and the date of birth printed on official documents always takes precedence.
